At the TMX Finance Family of Companies, women are leading the way. They’re mothers, mentors, military veterans, community volunteers, and operators. Our women are leaders.
Read all the interviews we held in our Women of the 20th blog series to learn how they each became the leaders they are today.
Give a brief description of your current role.
I currently serve as the Director of Construction. My department manages: new construction, from design and planning to store opening; development, production, and installation of store signage; facilities and maintenance support for all store and corporate offices; oversight and maintenance of security systems; and pretty much any kind of special projects that don’t “fit” into any other corporate department.
What has been one of your most empowering moments at the TMX Finance Family of Companies?
When I assumed the duties and responsibilities of running the Construction Department, I realized that attaining the level and quality of leadership required for the position was going to be one of the most challenging professional endeavors in my career. I decided that establishing my “leadership legacy” was going to be beneficial for my team and myself, so I set out to create a strong team-oriented foundation in the department, and provide more opportunities for the team to further integrate into the corporate culture. Seeing the discoveries other departments have made regarding the construction team in addition to the new partnerships the team has made with other departments has been rewarding!
How has your time at the TMX Finance Family of Companies been special?
This is the largest company I’ve ever worked for, and yet it feels like a close knit family. That’s not something many people ever get to experience in the corporate world, and I’m grateful to be a part of it!
Who has been the most influential person(s) during your career?
My mother for sure, but I can’t stop there. The women in my family, from the three generations I have had personal relationships with, to the many more generations I have heard stories about, are some of the strongest and most caring women I have ever known. To make it even more special, I can include women on both sides of my lineage, maternal and paternal. There are times I can almost physically feel the sovereignty and it’s incredibly empowering!
Is there anything else we should know about your journey to success?
I feel I’ve been particularly successful in proving that not all success stories must begin with super outgoing type A personality. I use my unique personality traits and specific strengths to continue to build upon each small success in my career path. I like to keep the spotlight on myself fairly subtle, and direct the attention to the specific achievement and the teamwork that made it happen. I am nothing without my team.
